Can I return a rental car after the rental agency’s opening hours?

If the return agency offers a “mailbox return”, then an arrangement can be made with the agency at the time of departure.
Your responsibility begins with the signing of the rental contract and ends only with the return of the vehicle, documents and keys to an agency. During all this time, the vehicle remains under your full responsibility; you have legal care and guardianship of the vehicle.
You remain responsible for it until the agency reopens and are liable for any additional amount (fuel, extra day…) and for any damage to the vehicle.
The rental company cannot be responsible for any items left in the vehicle at the end of your rental.
